Before you get going on blogging about technology and its relationship to popular/sub popular culture, I'd like you to briefly reflect on the Da Word graffiti artist by Tonouchi. What isues do you think he raises? What issues did you like or dislike about what he says? What did you think about the language he uses and what questions did this reading raise for you?

While we are exploring popular culture I’d like us to think about technology/digital technology as a kind of popular or sub-popular culture and how it promotes democratic ideals. So, start by opening up a Microsoft Word document (BEFORE YOU POST ANYTHING ON THE BLOG I WOULD FIRST TYPE IT IN A WORD DOCUMENT); next take a couple of minutes to think about the kinds of technology and digital technology you use in your life; then free write about at least 2 kinds of technology you can think about.
In your blog post you need to briefly but specifically identify the kind of technology/digital technology that you believe is a part of pop/sub popular culture. Is it a part of pop or sub pop culture or maybe both? Explain why you see it being popular or underground and then critique the technology. For example Facebook is a very very popular social networking site that I would argue is popular culture for many people but mostly people between the ages of 12-30 because computer technology has thrived and become a part of life for many in the last 30 years. But many people argue that Facebook negatively influences people to gossip or place hurtful posts on people’s pages. Here I’ve presented one aspect of technology, discussed why I think it’s popular and critiqued it. You do the same. Then I’d like you to further answer at least 2 questions below about technology in general.
The additional questions are as follows:
- For you, what does it mean to be technologically literate?
- What kind of values or social etiquette exists in cyberspace?
- How does technology shape culture, education, poverty, racism, sexism?
- How is technology taught and learned in this country?
- How does access to technology benefit citizens in terms of power, race, gender, socioeconomic status?
- Why does our culture consider some technological activities to be officially useful and appropriate (for ex: facebook, online research etc)?
- What kind of technology do you find problematic and why?
- In what ways, are computers used to find practical information? And how does that impact how we value information?
- In what ways has technology impacted your life and the kind of popular or sub-popular culture you’re into?
- How do computers promote or diminish democracy in society and at work?
**KEEP AN EYE ON TIME! YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE CLASS HOUR TO WORK ON THIS SO IF YOU FINISH EARLY TACKLE SOME MORE QUESTIONS TO PROVIDE A THOROUGH BLOG POST.

Take 10 minutes to make sure your blog post from last class has thoroughly provided information to your peers. If you’d like to add more (revise) go right ahead.
After, you need to read through at least 2 blog posts and use the following questions to help guide your response (REMEMBER TYPE IN A WORD DOCUMENT FIRST).
- What did you like about the bloggers post?
- What did you think of the bloggers critique of pop/sub pop culture in relation to technology?
- What would you have liked the blogger to write more about?

What is graffiti? The picture that is posted up here on this blog is what I like to call true art work. It has color, style, creativity and it just catches your attention. Notice how much beauty it can bring to a wall compare to its surroundings, it gives it so much life. This art work is a piece that’s readable and speaks the truth of this artist “ART CHILD”. How long do you think this artist took to do this piece? Was it done legal or illegal? From what is shown behind this piece you can tell there was another piece that was done with style also. Was it buffed (written over) because it was bad art piece? I honestly think it’s a legal wall that they are giving all artists a chance to express and show their talent. I think is fair to all artists to give each other a chance to shine and show off their talent on these legal walls. Is nice to see these art pieces that you normally don’t see and it’s a great spot to take a memorable picture at. I must say this was a great photographer who had taken this picture of this art work which I think it is also a talent of art that just added more style to the graffiti, It’s an amazing picture and art work over all :]
